CDM Smith Environmental Engineer 3 in Fairfax, Virginia
Work on-site at client's office for an initial term of 1 year assisting with design and construction services for water, sewer and streets projects.
As needed, prepare engineering calculations, plans and specifications. Evaluate alternatives and prepare engineering reports to assist clients and stakeholders to determine which project solutions best meet their objectives.
Coordinate technical aspects of work including the disciplines associated with a project such as civil, architectural, structural, electrical instrumentation and plumbing and HVAC.
Prepare engineering specifications for design projects to meet the technical requirements of the project and in accordance with regional and local standards. Review project bids and provide recommendations to the client for contractor selection.
Serve as project engineer to provide construction coordination of CDM Smith engineering design projects or as the client’s construction manager representative, which includes: performing review of construction submittals; providing responses to requests for information; coordinating with other discipline engineers and performing document control; coordinating with CDM Smith staff to complete project site visits, and ensure that staff completing the site visits have necessary expertise, training and certifications.
As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by: Performing work involving conventional and straightforward plans, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment Working on a variety of assignments, which may include, equipment design/development, test of specifications, process study, research investigations, or report preparation Independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria Using your best judgment and knowledge of principles/techniques in making minor adaptations and modifications Possibly supervising or coordinating the work of draftsmen, technicians and others assisting in specific assignments Learning project management techniques and the CDM Smith management system Managing tasks on large projects or phases of small projects Developing external client interaction and marketing skills
